Tech outlet Wired has published its 2026 guide to party speakers — large, high-output Bluetooth devices that function like compact PA systems, offering deep bass, LED lighting, and often karaoke capabilities.
The growing popularity of these devices reflects a broader shift toward socializing at home instead of at bars or nightclubs, especially among younger consumers. A July 2026 Harris Poll found that 68 percent of US Gen Z adults say going out has become too expensive, while research firm Attest reported that 64 percent of people now drink primarily at home, up from 42 percent a year earlier.
What sets party speakers apart
Unlike standard Bluetooth speakers, party speakers deliver significantly more power — ranging from around 100 to 800 watts — along with battery life typically between 12 and 25 hours. Many include microphone and instrument inputs, karaoke controls, the ability to link multiple units together, and companion apps for adjusting sound and lighting.
