105-year-old Latvian woman in Australia casts her vote in Saeima election
As Latvia's 15th Saeima election drew to a close, a video from Australia showing a 105-year-old woman voting went viral on social media, highlighting that Latvia's diaspora also takes part in parliamentary elections.

As election day in Latvia neared its end and polling stations prepared to close, a video from Australia drew significant attention on social media. It shows a woman of remarkable age — 105 years old — casting her ballot in Latvia's 15th Saeima election.
In the footage, the woman walks with the help of a cane, but that did not stop her from making her way to the polling station to vote. The person who shared the video added a note emphasizing the voter's impressive age.
The clip became a symbolic reminder that Latvia's parliamentary elections involve not only voters inside the country but also members of the diaspora abroad. Polling stations set up in other countries operate according to local time, just as in Latvia, running from 8:00 to 20:00.
On October 3, polling stations across Latvia were open until 20:00. Voters could cast their ballot at any polling station in the country by presenting a valid Latvian citizen's passport or identity card.
