Auļi and 4 Domu Tenori Release Joint Song “Mācies, puis’, kamēr jauns!”
The bagpipe and drum group Auļi and the vocal group 4 Domu Tenori have released a joint song and music video, “Mācies, puis’, kamēr jauns!” (“Learn, lad, while you are young!”). The two acts will continue their collaboration on stage at a Winter Solstice concert on 16 December at the Palladium concert hall.
The Latvian bagpipe and drum group Auļi and the group 4 Domu Tenori have released a new joint song and a music video titled “Mācies, puis’, kamēr jauns!”, which translates roughly as “Learn, lad, while you are young!”. The piece is about the strength of boys and men, covering not only physical strength but also the inner strength to grow, learn, take responsibility and act without fear. The collaboration will carry on at a concert on 16 December.
Folk song words for a modern message
The song is built on the words of Latvian folk songs. The lines chosen urge listeners not to stand aside but to learn, act, develop and shape their own path. The idea for the song came from composer Laura Leontjeva. She says that this message has long been present in Latvian folk songs, and that she wanted to bring it into the present day. In her words, the song tells a young man not to wait for someone else to do, learn or decide things in his place.
Kaspars Bārbals, the leader of Auļi, says the group finds strength in the distant past and in ancestral traditions, and draws inspiration and life wisdom from folk songs. Now, he says, they can share this with the younger generation, which prompts bright thoughts about the continuation of Latvia.
Men standing together
The song is also a story about men coming together. The voices of four young singers merge with the instrumental and vocal power of Auļi, creating an energetic sound rooted in Latvian tradition. The song invites listeners to see masculinity not as a ready-made quality but as a path: the ability to improve, overcome oneself, learn from others and become a person who can be relied upon.
Joint concert in December
On 16 December, 4 Domu Tenori will join Auļi and other artists at a Winter Solstice concert at the Palladium concert hall. The core of the programme will be Auļi’s album “Ķekatās”, devoted to the winter solstice.
