US reportedly pressures Germany and France over diesel reserves
The Trump administration is urging Germany and France to release part of their emergency diesel reserves to help lower global prices. EU officials warn that a potential US export ban could harm both sides.

The administration of US President Donald Trump has called on Germany and France to release part of their emergency diesel fuel reserves in order to help bring down global prices. Three informed sources confirmed this to Reuters, according to the outlet "Европейская правда".
According to the report, the Trump administration is particularly dissatisfied with France and Germany, which US officials believe have not fully met their previous commitments to release emergency oil and petroleum product reserves.
One source said the United States has asked the European Union to release 120 million barrels of diesel fuel over the next six months. Another source told the agency that it is in Europe's interest to cooperate with the United States as it looks for various ways to increase supplies of petroleum products and reduce costs for consumers.
Background
On September 23, it became known that Trump was considering restricting diesel fuel exports amid record-high prices in the country, though producers warned this could cause chaos in fuel markets.
EU representatives have warned that the US plan for a possible 90-day ban on diesel fuel exports could significantly affect European markets and negatively impact both sides.
