On Tuesday, June 23, the US Senate voted 50-48 to pass a resolution that directs President Donald Trump to remove US armed forces from the zone of hostilities against Iran. The resolution is a concurrent resolution, which does not require the president's signature and is not legally binding, although House Democrats consider it binding.

The White House dismissed the vote as unimportant, attributing its success to the absence of some Republicans during the session. The administration stated that "there are no hostilities from which to withdraw US forces, as hostilities ended with the ceasefire on April 7." Democrats, including Senator Tim Kaine, insist the resolution is important even amid current peace talks, arguing that Congress must clearly establish that a new conflict cannot be renewed without its consent.

Earlier, on June 3, the House of Representatives approved a similar resolution, with four Republicans backing Democrats. President Trump then called them "posers" on his social media platform Truth Social and accused them of being unpatriotic. However, on June 17, the Senate had rejected a procedural vote on an analogous measure.
