The US military confirmed that a Corsair sea drone, manufactured by a Texas-based company, was deployed to rescue two crew members of a downed Apache helicopter. President Donald Trump stated that the helicopter was shot down by Iran near the Strait of Hormuz. According to US Central Command (Centcom), the soldiers were rescued within approximately two hours and are in stable condition.

The Corsair is 24 feet (7.3 meters) long, can carry 1,000 pounds (450 kg), and travel at over 35 knots (40 mph). It is equipped with a 360-degree camera, radar system, and electronic radio sensor. Experts believe the drone was likely manually controlled via joystick for the rescue. The US Navy has about 50 such vessels, typically used for mine detection and surveillance.

The rescue occurred at around 3:30 am local time on Tuesday. The crew members were picked up by the drone and later hoisted to a helicopter for further transport. A Centcom spokesman noted the Corsair was chosen due to its proximity and capabilities.

In comparison, Ukrainian sea drones are smaller and cannot carry people. Houthi rebels and Iran have also used drone boats, but Ukrainian innovations have significantly influenced US development of such technology.
