Trump Administration Allows Anthropic to Restore Mythos 5 Model to Over 100 Companies and Agencies
Two weeks after Anthropic was forced to pull its cybersecurity models Mythos 5 and Fable 5 from the market, the Trump administration is softening its stance, allowing Mythos 5 to be used by more than 100 US government agencies and companies, including their foreign employees.

According to reports from Semafor and Reuters, the US Commerce Department has allowed Anthropic to restore access to its most powerful cybersecurity model, Mythos 5, to more than 100 specific US government agencies and companies. This permission also covers foreign employees at those organizations, as well as Anthropic's own foreign employees, who were originally banned from accessing the models.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick sent a letter to Anthropic's Chief Compute Officer Tom Brown on Friday, stating that appropriate safeguards are in place to permit certain trusted partners to access the Claude Mythos 5 model. The administration did not address the release of Fable 5 in this directive.
Both models were pulled from the market after security researchers allegedly bypassed their guardrails easily. A version of Mythos 5 that was widely released a few days before the ban was said to have more protections, but it was also withdrawn.
Anthropic publicly acknowledged the progress in a post on X, saying that since June 12, it has been working closely with the US government to restore access to Claude Mythos 5 and Fable 5. The company stated that today the government notified it that Mythos 5 can be redeployed to US organizations that operate and defend critical infrastructure. Anthropic is restoring access quickly and continuing to work with the government to expand access to Mythos 5 and make Fable 5 available for general use again.
Anthropic did not immediately respond to TechCrunch's request for comment.
