Latvia's electricity transmission system operator AS "Augstsprieguma tīkls" (AST) announced it will increase monitoring of the balance between electricity production and consumption on Wednesday, August 12, during a solar eclipse. Company representatives confirmed the plan.

A solar eclipse can temporarily affect the operation of solar power plants, as reduced sunlight lowers solar energy input and may cause fluctuations in electricity output. As a result, the transmission system operator intends to keep closer watch over the situation to ensure stable operation of the power system and maintain balance between generated and consumed electricity.

AST is responsible for operating Latvia's electricity transmission network and ensuring continuous, secure power supply across the country. The company regularly tracks factors that could affect the stability of the power system, including weather conditions and other external circumstances.
