Android Central lays off entire staff, but site will keep publishing
Android-focused blog Android Central has laid off all its full-time staffers, though owner Future says the site will continue to publish.

Android Central, a blog dedicated to covering the Android ecosystem, has laid off its entire full-time staff. At least four of the six people listed on the site's staff page spoke publicly about losing their jobs, including Shruti Shekar, Derrek Lee, Harish Jonnalagadda, and Nicholas Sutrich. Former senior editor Namerah Saud Fatmi also updated her LinkedIn profile to show that her time at the site had ended.
Both managing editor Derrek Lee and Nicholas Sutrich confirmed that every remaining staff member was let go. None of the former staffers were told whether the site itself would be shut down entirely.
Despite the layoffs, new content has continued to appear on the site, now coming from freelance contributors rather than the former full-time team. A spokesperson for owner Future, Nicole Martineau, told The Verge that the company will keep publishing Android Central and will share more details about the site's future at a later point, adding that no further comment would be provided for now.
Similar trend elsewhere
Another Android-focused outlet, Android Police, has also recently cut at least two staffers and now lists an editorial team of just four people. Android Police's owner, Valnet — which also previously acquired The Verge's sister site Polygon — did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the layoffs.
