Aidis Tomsons: Election Day Between a Church Service and a Radio Marathon
Aidis Tomsons, host of Latvian Radio 1's show Krustpunktā, tells the magazine Ir about the day of the 15th Saeima election, the surprising results and his faith.

Journalist Aidis Tomsons speaks in an interview with the magazine Ir about the election outcome, his work in journalism and his faith. He explains why one party won the election by a huge margin and why politicians no longer have a way to avoid making difficult decisions.
Election morning at church
Tomsons hosts the show Krustpunktā on Latvian Radio 1. On the morning of election day he went not to a polling station but to the Riga Adventist congregation. There was an emergency: several people who usually lead the musical part of the service had fallen ill, so Tomsons had to sing himself. After the service he also led a Bible discussion.
For Adventists, Saturday is the Sabbath, but this time Tomsons kept his phone within reach in case his workplace called. He already had one foot in the 15th Saeima election.
A long night in the studio
Later he managed both to vote and to host a six-hour election night marathon in the radio studio. He went to bed around four in the morning, knowing that by daybreak the world would not have changed significantly.
