The annual religious celebrations marking the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary have concluded in Aglona, with approximately 14,000 people visiting the site, Latvian Television reports.

Pilgrims traveled to Aglona from various regions of Latvia as well as from abroad. Overall attendance was comparable to last year's figures.

Although organizers and clergy had hoped for a larger number of visitors this year, that expectation was not met — the flow of people remained roughly at the same level as the previous year.

The Aglona festival is one of the largest gatherings of Catholic believers in the Baltics, annually attracting pilgrims from across Latvia as well as from neighboring and other foreign countries.
