May 4th Declaration Club calls on citizens to vote in October 3 Saeima elections

The appeal recalls that 35 years ago Latvia returned to Europe as a free and democratic state, thanks to the May 4, 1990 Declaration on the Restoration of Independence and the August 21, 1991 Constitutional Law on the change of Latvia's state status. The club notes that high voter turnout in the elections to the then Supreme Council was decisive, as independence supporters prevailed despite the presence of the occupying army and other hostile forces.

Warning about risks

The organization states that, similarly to 1990, the upcoming Saeima elections are being targeted by those hoping for a return of occupation as well as by domestic populists. It mentions that Moscow, engaged in its war against Ukraine, is playing its remaining cards in an attempt to influence the outcome.
