Five weeks have passed since 39-year-old Dace Aišpure underwent a hysterectomy, the surgical removal of the uterus. The procedure came after a journey of nearly three decades marked by alternating periods of pain and exhaustion, attempts to cope, episodes of depression, and moments of simply trying to accept the situation.
A long road to an answer
Throughout this time, Aišpure was preoccupied with the question of what was wrong with her health. Clarity came only a year ago, when she was diagnosed with two conditions - endometriosis and adenomyosis. Both diagnoses are linked to uterine lining tissue growing outside its normal location, which can cause chronic pain and other health problems.
From diagnosis to surgery
About a year passed between the diagnosis and the surgery. The hysterectomy became the solution after decades of struggling with symptoms that affected both her physical and emotional wellbeing. Now five weeks removed from the operation, Aišpure looks back on the 26-year period during which she searched for answers about her health condition before it was finally clarified.
