On Wednesday, August 12, a total solar eclipse will take place in the zodiac sign of Leo. Across much of Europe, including Latvia, the event will be visible only as a partial solar eclipse.

In Riga, the eclipse will begin at 20:06 in the evening, reaching its maximum around 20:57, when roughly 80% of the Sun's disk will be obscured by the Moon's shadow. The eclipse will then gradually recede until the Sun is fully visible again.

What a Leo eclipse is said to represent

In astrological tradition, solar eclipses are considered powerful turning points that can mark the beginning of new life chapters or force a reassessment of one's current circumstances. Because this eclipse falls in Leo, it is associated with themes tied to that sign — self-expression, creativity, courage, and matters of the heart, including love.

Astrologers describe this period as a time when many people may find themselves asking what they truly want out of life, and whether they are ready to act on it. Such celestial events are believed to intensify the desire for change and to encourage bolder choices in both personal and emotional matters.

While the astrological effect of the eclipse is said to vary from person to person, the second week of August is being described overall as an astrologically intense and significant stretch of this year.
